A downloadable game

This started as an experiment to see how closely I could remake a classic Game & Watch style game using Pulp, the web-based editor for Playdate games. It ended up getting pretty close, so I figured I'd share it! Bounce the people falling from the fiery building on your life net until they make it into the ambulance. The challenge increases along with your score and up to four people can be falling at the same time. If you miss three times, it's game over! Your high score will be saved.

Controls

  • Move left: Left d-pad arrow, B button, or turn the crank toward you
  • Move right: Right d-pad arrow, A button or turn the crank away from you
  • Use any combination of these controls to find the best option for you

Credits

Thank you Visual Other for your help with fixing the crank control. It's now less sensitive, so you're less likely to move to the next spot without meaning to (updated in version 1.1).

Thought you did a great job recreating a Game&Watch style game. Had fun even though it wasn't too much of a challenge to ultimately juggle the people. Still had fun playing!

Nice work!

Wonderfully done! Loved this game as a kid. :D

Small piece of feedback: Using the Dpad feels great but the crank feels a little too sensitive to me. Perhaps if the crank input went by ticks split by 4 (so it would take a full rotation of the crank to move from all the way left to all the way right). Just a thought! Love what you have here though & thank you for porting it over

Thank you for the feedback! Glad you like it. I agree about the crank, I spent some time trying to find the right cooldown between cranks, but I couldn’t quite find the balance between requiring too many cranks to get from one side to the other and the quick movement from one spot to another being too quick. It’s a challenge!

Although, now that you mention splitting it by four ticks, it gave me another idea that might work! I’ll give it a shot and upload a new version if I can get it working. Thanks!

I got some help from a great developer and the crank sensitivity is much better now! You can download it again for the latest version and update it on your Playdate.

Really nice - feels way better now
